Chips for Supper

Avoiding the greatest thing on earth — chips for supper

Fast Food Fail: May 22-28

I’m reporting this in an attempt to lose weight.  I’m going to start with just updating on getting fast food (too often) or going to sit-down restaurants (more rare).  Eventually it might turn into posting all that I eat, or even how much I spend.

Sunday:  Ate at home!
Monday:  Ate at home!
Tuesday:  Ate at home!  Although, bosslady bought crazy sticks from Little Caesar’s since I only had 1 student.  And, by the way, an awesome win by the Vancouver Canucks to go to the Stanley Cup Finals!!!!
Wednesday:  Ate at home!
Thursday:  Ate at home!
Friday:  Had some sushi at 4:30pm — my first food of the day. I probably shouldn’t have done that, but I only ordered 1 roll instead of my usual 2 + nigiri.
Saturday:  I ended up going to the big mall after work today and yes, I failed. I got Taco Time at the food court.

Other than my screw up at the end of the week, this week was surprisingly good!  I think what’s helping me is that grossroommate is not home.  I have more room in the fridge and freezer for better food.  I hope i can continue this trend, but grossroommate comes home on Wednesday.  And…. I should stop going to the big mall.

Friday Fill-Ins

Every Friday, I’ll be participating in Friday Fill-Ins.

1. This week I managed to get a head-start on some much-needed purging.

2. I can’t wait until “Haven” returns.  I like that show!

3. It’s all about the Benjamins, baby.

4. I’m hoping for better weather so I can go for a walk in the sun.

5. I demand that newboy come visit me before my roommate gets back from Malaysia, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. (sadface)

6. Beware the left path, it’s filled with snakes.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to sitting and watching more of “Bones”, tomorrow my plans include working (I really need to find something to do on Saturday nights) and Sunday, I want to finish my purging.  It’s a long, arduous task!

Random Ramblings While…

…chatting with oldboy: Did I really just do that? I did! I used all 3 of the “there’s” correctly In the same sentence! So weird.

…shopping: Has anyone ever noticed that if you look at a jar of dill pickles, there actually is no dill in it anymore?  Totally not cool.  Whats going to happen next? Chips with no potatoes in them anymore?

…at the liquor store:  Hmm… It sure is busy in here. Must be a hockey day.  5:30 and super busy means that people are getting off work, getting their drinks, and heading off to watch the game at home.  You’d think they’d open more tills.  And, the couple in front of me brought their 15 year old son who was wearing a wife beater shirt. You think he was picking out his own booze?

…cooking: Whoops! Looks like I learned something new (but should have been obvious).  A thumb with a bandaid on it has no grip on a spaghetti sauce jar.  Good thing I was pouring it into the pan so it didn’t drop far.

Fast Food Fail: May 15-21

I’m reporting this in an attempt to lose weight.  I’m going to start with just updating on getting fast food (too often) or going to sit-down restaurants (more rare).  Eventually it might turn into posting all that I eat, or even how much I spend.

Sunday:  Raspberry white chocolate Frapp from Starbucks for half price.  But eww… I didn’t realise that white chocolate meant white mocha. Blech coffee…  Also had sushi that wasn’t that good.  It would have been better to have nothing.
Monday:  Pizza is cheap on Mondays so it usually lures me in.  I mean, $9 for a large with two toppings? And it’s yummy? Yes please.
Tuesday:  Ate at home!
Wednesday: Ate at home!
Thursday:  Ate at home!  Although, I did stand in line at McDonald’s in Walmart but decided it was taking too long.
Friday:  Ate at home!
Saturday:  Went to the big mall. Ergo, I went to the foodcourt.  Burger King

I was doing so well this week.  Four days in a row of eating at home!  And then I go to the mall and end up in the food court. For some reason I always do that at that mall.   And, unfortunately, on my eat at home days, I had chips. Not for supper, but I still shouldn’t have had them.

Any tips on how to eat better? My work hours really make it hard to eat well for dinner (10pm!)

Advice needed: Students make me angry sometimes…

So, I didn’t work today.

I normally work every Saturday.

I woke up at my usual time (which is really early and hard for me since during the week I don’t have to wake up at all) and headed off to work.   I was supposed to have 4 hours with one student.  When I got there, the secretary told me that the student called in sick.  So I had no work.

She called the bosslady who said that I would get “admin hours” which is a wage that is less than half of my normal wage, for only 2 hours.  I looked up the BC Employment Standards Act and I’ll be bringing up to her the fact that I should be getting my normal wage for 2 hours since I showed up for work.

The other part that’s really making me steamed right now is that the student that was “sick” wasn’t actually sick. She has been at golf all morning since 10am. She posted this on facebook.  The bosslady tends to not charge people when they’re sick and tries to charge them when they cancel last minute.  But she doesn’t have a very big backbone.   So I’m sure a lot of parents have figured out that as long as they call in sick, they won’t get charged.    We’ve had quite a few students calling in sick lately.

So my dilemma is this: do I show the bosslady the evidence of the student not being sick?

Friday Fill-Ins

Every Friday, I’ll be participating in Friday Fill-Ins.

1. I see couples everywhere, and I get jealous that I can’t see newboy.

2. Sometimes it just feels so good to scratch.

3. They begin talking back at an earlier and earlier age, these days.

4. I used to not care, but that was so many years earlier and I’m not sure I want to go back.

5. This I know: not many people actually know intimate things about me.

6. I had rice and stewed tomatoes for dinner.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to watching the Canucks win again, tomorrow my plans include working (blah) and Sunday, I want to walk and explore my neighbourhood more. Maybe. I’ve lived here for 2 years and don’t know the tiny areas yet!

Oh for the love of chocolate

Who doesn’t love chocolate? Especially in brownie format!

I know that brownies make the world go round, so I decided to make some.

Here’s the first batch:

I’m sure you’re wondering how I came to make this heavenly goodness.  My apartment has a small kitchen that grossroommate likes to make even smaller by storing 30 bottles of stuff on the counter.  There’s also an oven that doesn’t work. So we have to do all of our baking in this:

which takes up even more counter space.  So needless to say it’s hard to do any real baking. Until I came across this most amazing, super-easy recipe.

Yep. Box mix.  But it’s from the dollar store. So it’s only $1. Good deal if you ask me.

Now revel in their awesomeness.
