Friday Fill-Ins (August 10)

Every Friday, I’ll be participating in Friday Fill-Ins.

1. I picked out the wrong cookie.
2. I spread some good vibes.
3. I heard a little ditty, and it goes like this:

4. I wanted a little more money. Not a lot. I can make do with a little.
5. I wish that you all have a happy day.
6. I noticed a fruit fly, but he evaded capture.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to absolutely nothing, tomorrow my plans include hopefully wrapping gifts and Sunday, I want to maybe go to the farmer’s market!

Canada Day part 3

After the fireman pancake breakfast and the train museum, I wandered over to Rocky Point to enjoy Golden Spike Days.

Every year, there is a small petting zoo for the kids.

I walked to the end of the pier to look out at the scenery.

And I saw an osprey for the first time in my life!

There were a few clouds, but it was definitely sunnier than my pictures suggest. And look how far the tide is out!

There were also a few rides for the kids: bouncy castle, train ride, and jousting. Although I think the “big kids” enjoyed the jousting more than the actual kids.

Because Golden Spike Days celebrates the last spike and the gold rush that existed at the time, there is always a gold panner.  He panned that gold in less than 40 seconds!

There were a variety of foods to choose from: Ukrainian, Italian, Chinese, local fish and chips.  Unfortunately, I chose the pasta and sausage. The pasta was a little cold and the sausage was dry. <<insert sadface>>

Of course there was a stage and several performances, including Tony Prophet.

And the Golden Spike Can Can Dancers.

As well as the CAPA School of Dance.

Since it was open air, many people brought their dogs out for the day. A few others had different kinds of pets.

Since it was Canada Day, EVERYONE got a cupcake! There were at least 12 boxes this size.

After the cupcakes, they wanted us to work off the calories with a Zumba workout.

Remember the green men? Here are their cousins, the red guys.

Another booth for the kids every year is the boat building booth.

And the last thing I watched was the BMX bikers.

I had a full and busy day. And even though the day was only half over, I was tired and went home. Which means I missed out on seeing Doug and the Slugs. Remember them? No? Am I the only old one here?

It’s the end of the world as we know it

… and I feel fine.

No, really I do!

But it is actually the end of the world.  It must be! For I did something this afternoon that I never would have thought I’d do: Week 1, Day 1 of c25k!

That’s right! All 5’7, 8000 lbs of this girl actually did some running!  And I feel like I could go again.  I was a long distance runner in a past life (elementary school! so long ago…).

But now the real question is, when will I go out and do it again? If it all?

On a related note, I need to know a few things.  How do you carry your water bottle? How do you carry your keys and music device?  What type of headphones to you use? (my boobs kept making mine fall out of my ears boo)

Friday Fill-Ins (August 5)

Every Friday, I’ll be participating in Friday Fill-Ins.

1. How can I get motivated?  I just feel like staying in bed.

2. Soon I want to weed out the non-people in my Twitter followers list.  But why aren’t YOU following me? I’m cool yo.

3. My hair hates me. It never does anything. And I don’t know how to force it.

4. My 10-year highschool reunion was already 3 years ago.  Man I’m getting old.

5. My favorite summer fruits include watermelon and lemon. But not together. Or maybe? Can you make a watermelon lemonade?  Can you share your recipe?

6. Repetitive knocking and a few screams…what was that?  Oh, just the upstairs people knocking boots. Again. Can they ever just take a break?

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to body-prepping — hair in different places needs to be tackled, tomorrow my plans include meeting someone (eek!) and Sunday, I want to meet a different person (double eek!)!

Friday Fill-Ins (July 29)

Every Friday, I’ll be participating in Friday Fill-Ins.

1. Summer is half over but it hasn’t even started yet. That’s the problem when we don’t get any sun.

2. How I feel about my favourite music is unchanged.  It’s this new stuff that I don’t like.

3. Aargh! I don’t have enough loonies for laundry tomorrow! I’ll have to walk over to the store while the washer is going to get change for the dryer.

4. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Not coffee. Definitey not coffee. That stuff is nasty! And not just in the morning. I don’t like it ever! Sometimes I wonder why I go to Starbucks, because the odor that emits when they grind their beans makes me want to gag!

5. Seven: days in a week; neutral pH; awesome movie; three plus four; 111; deadly sins; swans a-swimming.

6. I’m sexy, don’t you think? If you do, you’re the only one. Not even I think so sometimes.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to watching my last lacrosse game before the playoffs start, tomorrow my plans include going to the night market with S7 and Sunday, I want to check out the Pride Parade downtown!

Walk advice needed

Today, I went to for a long walk. In the sun.  But I actually put on some sunscreen! Alas, I didn’t bring water with me. You can check out my route here.

First, MapMyRun looks really cool!  It was pretty intuitive the first time (and only time so far…) I used it. You just click on where you start and keep clicking on landmarks to get the whole route that you traveled, even if it’s offroad!  I think I’ll be using it more often now that I’ve started walking more.

And now, I need a few pieces of advice.

Shoes. I think I need new ones.  Last Sunday I went for a walk in flip-flops, inadvertently walking longer than I was expecting to. That walk was also about 2 hours.  But this time I wore shoes. And wouldn’t you know, my feet hurt more during the shoe-walk than the flip-flop-walk.  It could be because the first one was more of a saunter and the second more brisk.  But I really think I need new shoes.  These are about 3 years old and they’ve been through rain and snow and puddles.  Advice wanted: What brand shoes are good for walking? Where should I get them?

On a side note, dare I even try running?  I remember back in elementary school that I was pretty decent. I believe I got 23rd in a cross-country meet in grade 5 or so.  But in elementary school, everyone must participate in sports. So when track and field came around, and I was really good at most things (especially throwing) and most of the other students were not good at much but were still forced to participate, teachers generally put those lesser-athletic students in the running events.  So my running career kind of stalled at that point.  So it’s been about 21 years since I ran much (other than playing basketball, or a short run for highschool track and field [still did the throwing events]).  Do I want 2 black eyes from my boobs coming and hitting me?

Bra.  I’m really envious of all the small-chested women.   You guys can find bras in any store and they all fit will. But when you’re 38-G (and sometimes H or I, depending on the style), a sports bra is never to be found.  I can find a lot of 38 sports bras, and if they’re not cup-sized (compression fit) then the girls just spill out of them.  While that’s great for cleavage, it’s not great for athletics.  Advice wanted: Any bigger-boobed girls know where to get a good sports bra? Preferably without underwire.

Music.  As I was listening to my iPod, I had to skip a bunch of sings because, although I love R&B, they’re not good for walking.  Or running. Or anything up-tempo.  Advice wanted:  What songs do I need to have on my playlist? I like Hip Hop and some Classic Rock. Definitely no country.
